Halloween

I am not finished with my paper, but I am celebrating Halloween anyway. I *will* email my paper tomorrow. I won’t have to go to work, which always drains my enthusiasm to do more work afterward. Plus, last night, I decided to be crafty for a little while. Then I watched too much Buffy. Then [...]

No rest for the weary

I did not finish my paper. I need to write more tomorrow. But my unrelated research presentation went fine. I won’t be sewing. My fusible grid that I ordered a few weeks back has not yet arrived. Grrr. Well, I don’t have time to sew anyway, since I have to finish my paper tomorrow. A [...]

I have a plan

Hang on until 10pm on Wednesday. That’s my plan. I have barely started my 15-page essay that is due Wednesday. However, I’m mostly done with everything else for the week’s classes, including a research presentation on an entirely different topic for the same class (we are in agreement that that class has an unreasonable amount [...]

Swollen lymph node, again

This time, it’s not under my jaw but behind my ear. Grr, I don’t have the time or energy to worry about my health. I wish I had insurance. I don’t get it until January.

Very brief free-write

I had “The Devil Wear Prada” on while working on an annotated bibliography tonight. It made me wonder if I got too wrapped up in my career as a scholar. I wrote this in response to my thoughts and actions: I cried just a little today. I did not have your shoulder or chest to [...]

Economy Sucks

I should have cashed out my 401K. Since about May, but 401K (which I rolled over into an IRA) has lost 40%. That’s almost a $1000 dollars a month disappeared. I can’t even fathom that. I could’ve used that to pay off some student loans or *anything* else. What’s the point of “saving” money if [...]

Storylords

I was a real fan of this show as a kid. I didn’t realize it was a Wisconsin-based show. Anyway, I think I’m a bit old for it now. But I can still see it’s charm, particularly to a kid that liked O.G. Readmore, Storybreak, Reading Rainbow, and Dr Who. (“The Secret World of Og” [...]

Voicemail

My voicemail has been down since Oct. 1. It is now up and working again. So if you left me a message and I didn’t call back, I’m really sorry. The phone is also new enough that I have almost no numbers in it, so I didn’t know who any of my missed calls were.

I feel like this is as appropriate now as it was two years ago when I wrote it

You say that you’re so bad for me, But you’re no worse for me than me. All the self-defeat, the poor self-image- It’s my previous life that did the damage. You didn’t tell me when I wasn’t getting better. I didn’t tell you when you were getting worse. We cared too much to hurt each [...]

Memoirs & Midterm

Tonight I looked at a few saved conversations with SB, and our communication issues really have been around for a long time. At different period, they existed for different reasons. We didn’t work them out inside our relationship, and I can only hope we are on the track to working them out now. But the [...]

This advertisement is so weird

I see this often on Facebook, but I just don’t get it. Is it ironic? Or comedic? Or asinine?

US vs Rome

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/12/opinion/12dowd.html This article compares the US to ancient Rome, and it rewrites the Gallic War in the context of current events. Enjoi

I added more photos to Flickr

Mostly just snippets of NYC life. I proctored again today. It pays me and I can get a little homework done. And it forces me to get up and move and leave the apartment. So I picked up puddng afterward, but that took so much time because the subway line let me off on Canal [...]

Arrested Development

I was watching Season Two. The episode in which Anne breaks up with George Michael and George find out Lucille is in love with Oscar, with the clips of them being sad to Charlie Brown music, has an entirely different connotation to me now. It’s not as funny.

The Office

Pam & Jim’s subplot made me cry today. I can’t handle this season.

Top 10 Reasons to Love Clare

1. She has a sense of humor and sometimes you’ll even get it 2. Her IBS makes you stronger (but only because it doesn’t kill you) 3. Point C 4. Her strength and sensitivity strike a balance 5. She is wicked smart and insightful (but you wouldn’t know that talking to her because…) 6. She [...]

What’s up in mundane life

I have a take-home midterm due tomorrow, a prospectus due Sunday, a prospectus presentation Tuesday and a paper due Wednesday. I got two more proctoring assignments for this Saturday and next. The next training sessions are probably December and January, which is actually better than trying to jump in mid-semester with everything else going on. [...]

A Night in Ravenloft

(started September 27, mostly written October 7) Yesterday, after a two-hour delay, I flew into Milwaukee for opening night of SB’s show. Six picked me up from the airport (what a sweetie), and since it was too late for lunch (or too soon until dinner), we chatted at her place and had a failed adventure [...]
