SF: Entry #37

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

Did lots of stuff yesterday, with lots of pictures.
We first walked to North Beach for lunch. Then we walked to Coit Tower, which is probably most famous for its view. Then we walked to Fisherman’s Wharf, checked out the Ghiradelli mall and had ice cream. Then we took a boat to Alcatraz and toured the joint. (Be sure to check out the photos.) Then we booked it by bus to meet people for dinner and to see “Bourne Ultimatum”.

When we were walking to the station, there were assorted zealots yelling about things. One had a neon bright sign that read “Jesus Loves You”. I turned to Chad and said “All right! Jesus loves you! High five!” Then I turned to Hann and said “Jesus loves you!” and he replied “oo, I hope not”. that just seemed like a funny response to me.

Today, I’ve spent half the time doing homework, and the other half we went shopping around downtown. At 10:10pm, the week is looming…

Whew, I’m beat. It’s been a long week. Between spending too much time on homework and a high percentage of food not settling well, it’s been draining. It’s a good thing that I’m surrounded by nice people.

The quiz I took yesterday went pretty well. I hope the one today was ok. I hung out with classmates after the convivium today. I’m such a party animal that when I got home tonight at about 12:30, I fell asleep on the couch almost immediately. The lame fish fry I had for dinner hit kinda hard. It was awfully greasy for being so flavorless. The potatoes were fine.

I wore my t-shirt today that says “You have died of dysentery”. It may in fact be my best conversation-starting shirt. Anyway, Dan said that he should retire from school and design the game “Oregon Trail 3000” which is about crossing the country in a covered wagon post-apocalypse. Laura responded with “You just killed a 4000 pound mutant goldfish; you can carry 50 pounds.” She then said that there should be an “Oregon Road Trip” game, with bits like “You sing ’80s tunes with your friend; you can sing 3 tunes”. Dan commented with “You have died of nostalgia”.

Daphne & Apollo

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Ok, so I was mentioning how I was typing up my translation of Ovid’s Daphne & Apollo, and how she didn’t want to marry him so she prayed to be turned into a tree. Apollo was under Cupid’s spell, and so he hugged and kissed the tree.

Chad explained that this was called tree-stiality.

Off subject but equally funny, if not more so, Chad and I have been discussing writing a cookbook called the Gastronomicon. Seems particularly appropriate considering how my innards have been dealing with food lately.

After 7.5 weeks, I finally rode on a trolley yesterday. The wait was 45 minutes and the ride was 10, so I think I’ll stick to the bus. Still, it was quaint.

Yesterday I saw my first BART mouse. I had been pretty disappointed because I was used to “T” mice. This BART mouse was hardcore. He ran along the track and then climbed halfway up the wall to a hole.

Last night we went to North Beach for yummy Italian. I had semifreddo for dessert, which was very much like a boozier tirimisu.

Looking forward to the weekend. I need some brain space.
