Remember that I post photos on the my Flickr account. They aren’t very good lately, because my batteries died in my camera and I’ve only been using the iPhone camera. But at least you can get the gist.
Since lat Sunday…
I’ve been really exhausted. Poeple in my dept have been sick, so I hope I’m not getting anything. The weather has been crazy, from 80s to 40s.
I have a desk now, so I can work somewhere other than the bed. That helps.
I had my first assignment proctoring an exam yesterday. It went fine, but the trip there and back was too long (more than an hour each way, in Queens). So my $60 for 4 hours job was $60 for 8 hours. But I got some homework done.
Tomorrow I start at Starbucks. I was really hoping to line something up at school, but they only sent out an email asking me to come in for an interview on Friday. I guess I’ll see how it works out. I’d feel bad going in the Starbucks training and then bailing.
I went to a Yankees game on Friday night. The stadium is coming down, and today is the last game of the season there, so a few of us decided we had to go, and a fellow medievalist got tickets off eBay.
This coming weekend, I’ll be back in Milwaukee to see Chris’s show. Be sure to go see it sometime in the next two weekends!
Gotta get back to homework. Now that I have a job, I have to finish all work over the weekends. We’ll see how that goes…
I am copying this from my stepsister’s website:
Posting mostly to remind myself to do this, but also to share with others who think it’s a good idea. For those of you who feel differently, I acknowledge and respect your difference of opinion and you may scroll on past.
Make a donation to Planned Parenthood in Sarah Palin’s name. And here’s the good part: when you make a donation to PP in her name, they’ll send her a card telling her that the donation has been made in her honor! You can make a donation for as little as $5.00!
Here’s the link to the Planned Parenthood website:

You’ll need to fill in the address to let PP know where to send the “in Sarah Palin’s honor” card.

My prof had a few medievalists over for a yummy dinner tonight. During a conversation about tv shows and movies, he asked if we had ever seen a series that was great but only lasted half of a season and he never saw it when it was on but has the DVD, and it’s called… “Firefly!” we chimed in.
I got a lap desk today so there is no risk of my laptop fusing to my lap. lap lap lap lap lap. I’m tired.
I think I’ve lost at least two shirts since coming out here. They must’ve been swallowed up at the hotel, because I haven’t had them since moving into the apt, and I am disappointed. I was going to purchase one replacement (robot hugs) but it is no longer available. That makes me sad.
I had told myself that I had to finish my transcriptions as well as my translations before I could do anything tonight. But I was told by another medievalist that we aren’t allowed to work on Saturday night. So I joined a bunch of history grads to watch the Ohio-USC football game. However, the game didn’t go well, so things shifted to hanging out. It was good to meet people and begin insinuating myself into the social dimension of the dept.
Tomorrow night, I am having dinner at my professor’s place.
One thing I don’t quite understand. Why, when some people get drunk, do they apologize to me as a non-drinker? Do they think I am judging them poorly for it? I have reasons for my choice, and they don’t. It’s weird to assume that I think everyone should think the same as I do. It’s like getting uptight because someone has a different haircut and prefered brand of toothpaste. People have preferences and make choices based upon them. I prefer to avoid heartburn, acid reflux, and IBS, so I avoid booze and (not often successfully) caffeine. My choice is also way cheaper.
I have 4.3 rather tall walls that, once painted, will still need some spicing up. I’m having a tough time deciding between “art” and “photography”. I might be able to swing both if I group them on different walls. Opinions?
Art: Theme One: Botanicals (larger prints)
Art: Theme Two: Graphic (smaller prints)
Photography: Theme Three: Nature
Photography: Theme Four: Textures & Shapes
PS. I swapped the groupings around slightly between Friday and Sunday. I’m thinking that grouping the photos in two large “galleries” might be cool.
Today I was hired at Starbucks. The location is about 2 blocks from school (which makes it the third closest Starbucks; hehe). I just needed to earn money and the opportunity came first.
With proctoring on occassion (5 hrs on Sat) and my work study (3 hr/wk) , I should be ok. In the opinion you readers, should I pursue positions at school and drop Starbucks if they work out? I don’t like bailing on people, but I could earn $2-$5/hr more at school or tutoring. That might change if I get on a management track, which could happen in as quickly as one month.
My bedding came today, so my room is looking more like a room. I also had Panera and Cold Stone. Yum.
I should really get an umbrella.
Today Bjorn was in town for a meeting. Flew in this morning and left tonight, so we met up for dinner. It was awesome!
Since I couldn’t make it to training this time around, the tutoring company offered me a position as a proctor for exams. Not a bad deal at all. I have a second call back for Starbucks tomorrow, but I’m tryng to hold out for the school positions.
